A lil' Q & A ~ Kasey Anderson

Kasey Anderson's gritty, narrative-driven songs are raw, and, at times, reflect a clever witted sense of humor Kasey so easily possesses. The Triple Door jumped on the opportunity to interview Kasey before he joined the rest of The Honkies for a night of uninterrupted Americana on May 2nd on the Mainstage.

The Triple Door: Name the number 1 song listed on your iTunes' "25 Most Played" playlist?
Kasey Anderson: The Rolling Stones - "Happy"

TD: Name your biggest guilty pleasure, musically?
KA: I don't believe in guilty pleasures. If you like something, just be willing to admit to liking it.

TD: When you're not playing music, what are you up to?
KA: Eating sandwiches. 100% of the time, every time.

TD: What was the first song you ever played?
KA: "Let Me Die in My Footsteps" by Bob Dylan. Followed probably by "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

TD: If you could play with any musician, living or dead, who would it be?
KA: It would definitely be one of the living ones because playing with a dead musician would be horrifying.

TD: What was the best concert you ever attended?
KA: Any number of Springsteen shows over the years. A close second would be Bob Log III at the closing night of the 3B Tavern in Bellingham.

TD: If you could perform in any city in the world, where would you?
KA: I love playing in Dublin. Really, anywhere but Pierre, South Dakota is fine.

TD: What's your most embarrassing on stage experience?
KA: A guy in my old band - many, many years ago- wet himself on stage. That wasn't embarrassing for me personally but the embarrassment-by-proxy was pretty overwhelming.

TD: What inspires you to play music?
KA: Other bands. There are a few things better than finding a new favorite band.

TD: What hidden talents do you have?
KA: I've achieved the perfect combination of insecurity and egomania so I usually make sure that any and all of my talents are on display. I do make a great sandwich, though. I don't know how many people know what about me.

TD: Who is your musician crush?
KA: Rachel Flotard

Rick's Picks of the Week: Nearly Dan

Rick's Picks of the Week is Nearly Dan on Wednesday, November 23rd at 7pm and 9:30pm on the Mainstage at The Triple Door. For the first show, Nearly Dan will play Steely Dan's fifth album, The Royal Scam, and for the second show they will play Steely Dan's sixth album, Aja.

Nearly Dan captures the distinctive, rich in character, quirky, alternately exuberant and tormented lead vocals of Steely Dan, a legacy of the great jazz-pop duo Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, in there own vibrantly unique way.

Based out of Seattle, Nearly Dan is made up of 14 local and national musicians who share a passion for the distinctive music of Steely Dan- revered for inventive music-making, jazz- infected lush harmonies and their own mysterious lyrics that can make one glad to be alive or want to mope in bed. The individual Nearly Dan members come from across genres- from rock, R&B and country to fusion, swing and jazz- and have received training at institutions from Berkelee College of Music in Boston, to University of Washington and Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle.

More than just a tribute band, this group's musicians have performed with greats such as Ray Charles, George Benson, Diane Schuur, Lou Rawls, Basia, Huey Lewis, Towere of Power, The Four Tops, The Temptations, and Gladys Knight. Anyone who knows the music of Steely Dan, also know that only fabulous musicians can pull it off! A challenge this group is energized by, and rises to!
